Stayin' Real in a World Full of Fake

Writer's picture: Nina Nina

Are you familiar with chameleons? They're rather small animals who have the ability to adapt to different environments. And why am I mentioning this? Well, because they remind me of some people, who just like chameleons adapt themselves depending on their surroundings. Wherever they go they change their behavior in order to satisfy as many people as possible. Therefore in order to be liked. Meaning they never stay true to themselves. If they're even aware of who they actually are, that is.

I've never been really fond of this type of people. I mean you like who you like, you are who you are. You can never be liked by everyone and you can never like everyone. And if you do there must be something wrong. Why look for everyone's approval? Why is it so good that everyone ends up liking you if they don't even know the real you? What's the point of getting the approval from people you don't even like? From people, you might actually despise? I say fuck them, stay true to yourself and the ones who give meaning to your life. Otherwise, you're just one hypocrite more in this world full of foxes.

Honesty is something that comes easily to me. If I don't like you I show it clearly. Some appreciate this, others don't and that's okay. Some people just can't handle honesty. And others aren't capable of it. But just because you're not capable of it doesn't mean that you have to kiss everyone's ass. It doesn't mean that you have to be fake.

The reason why I'm writing about this is that I've realized that this is something I truly hate. I hate being fake and I hate people who are fake. As much as I try to understand everything and everyone I can't understand people who can look someone in the eyes and lie to their faces about liking them, while actually, they talk daily behind their backs. I mean can anyone truly understand this?

What's even the point of being fake? I mean isn't it tiring to constantly pretend to be someone you're not? Isn't it obnoxious to smile in someone's face while you'd actually rather spit on it? These kinds of questions keep popping inside my mind anytime I try to understand or rationalize this type of behavior. And every time I try I hit rock bottom. Some things are just not understandable.

That's why I appreciate rawness so much. I appreciate honesty. I appreciate people who are real. I think that in this world full of fake, there's nothing better than finding people who are real to your face and to your back. It takes courage to know that being honest isn't easy because you get a lot of hate for it and you still do it anyway. You still choose to be who you are despite what everyone says and thinks. That shit is rare.

So this post is pretty much an appreciation post for everyone who has the courage to be real in a world that is sadly so fake. Keep on slayin'.

Honestly... with true love,

Nina
